Only 37 Percent of Fans Liked 'Game of Thrones' Season 8, According to Rotten Tomatoes

After weeks of heavy criticism and waning anticipation, Game of Thrones came to its final conclusion on Sunday night. With Season 8's full end, the show's Rotten Tomatoes score has been officially updated to reveal what critics and viewers thought of the final season, and the results are startlingly unimpressive.

Season 8 of Game of Thrones was ranked at 37 percent by more than 8,000 audience members. This score is accompanied by the Rotten Tomatoes garbage can graphic, which signifies the lowest-ranking tier of entertainment.

Ratings for Season 8 episodes declined steadily throughout the season. Episode 1 of Season 8 began with a 92 percent approval. Episode 5, "The Bells"--where Daenerys Targaryen burns King's Landing to the ground--with a mere rating of 47 percent.

Those scores, however, are made up of critic opinions. Fans were able to give the show a set amount of stars, from zero to five, in order to contribute to the audience rating. A slew of comments were also left behind, detailing disappointment in the final season and the ultimate fate of one of TV's biggest events.

While most who rated the season didn't comment, some passionate statements are posted in the comments section. "This series finale was an utter travesty and disappointment. A show that took the world by storm, goes out with a whimper," wrote a nameless commenter, who gave the show only one star.

Rushed plot points have been a typical complaint on social media since mid-season, with viewers claiming the series abandoned long-developed storylines. Others claimed most of the characters had become unpredictable, bringing into question the intense character development that fans loved throughout the first seven seasons.

Critics were more forgiving, as their season average became a mediocre 70 percent. Game of Thrones has an overall critic score of 91 percent and an audience score of 82 percent, according to Rotten Tomatoes. Season 8 is the lowest ranked season, by far, and with just 70 percent, is the only season to fall below a 90 percent rating.

A formal critical consensus on the final season has yet to be added to Season 8's Rotten Tomatoes bio.
